There have been many cases in the news where persons exhibiting “bad (and illegal) behavior” were being vigorously defended. These affluent and/or protected class of people are given extreme excuses for their behavior, in addition to being given little or no punishment in comparison to the poor and middle class masses. In one of my recent blog posts, a person responded that those who are “rich” can change the laws…..this is becoming more evident. I guess the fix is in for those that fall in the economic category of poor to middle class, are the wrong race, or without the necessary connections to get justice in our legal system. Is it true that the perpetrators have more rights than the victims? In current times, it is surely true if you, your employer, or your family have money and resources, then you have a better chance of being exonerated or given little to no punishment.http://cbsn.ws/1bScjF6 What about the lives of the victims and their families?
It is interesting how we impel urban residents to go to the police to report crime and perpetrators, but when white collar crimes occur, I have noticed how colleagues will defend the bad (and even illegal) behavior of their “good old boys and buddies”. I would have loved to continue believing that justice was blind, but from my experience, it is not. I base this feeling on the 30+ year old unsolved murder of my brother and the process of my own case of BBF et. al. vs MDOT et. al. where the Michigan AG (Attorney General) will go to any means to defend and justify the behavior of defendants MDOT (Michigan Department of Transportation) and former employees who left MDOT amidst findings of discrimination and awarding of $millions in contracts to a future employer. This has included the repeated defense by the Michigan AG that women(gender) are not protected against discrimination under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (for Federally Funded Highway Adm. Projects). In addition, the AG and Michigan Federal Judge disregarded the investigation report findings of the Federal Highway Administration and MDOT citing discrimination to myself and company.BBFES_FHWA.MDOT_2011Report This is especially disturbing in light of my attempt to notify the state Attorney General’s office of the wrongdoing, to which I was informed there was nothing they could do.
To what means will an agency go to destroy a female owned business while defending those who have stated (referring to me) “no woman should make that kind of money”, “I Hate Her” and “Slam Dunk” (her company) as they implemented various measures over several years to eliminate my company from competing. I, and others who formerly provided services to MDOT have encountered these major obstacles in our attempts to operate reputable businesses. In the effort to achieve justice for myself and other women and minority owned businesses I chose to stand up for my rights. This case is currently in the US Court of Appeals. Is there a war on the rights of women? Is justice blind for all people?
Based on current events, my answers to these questions are Yes and No, respectively.
